Why Bike Tech in School?
Our program delivers hands-on, STEM-aligned learning. We equip high schools to run their own bike tech classroom, complete with teacher training and an industry- and CTE-endorsed curriculum
Cross-Applicable Skills
Yes, our students learn how to repair bikes. HOWEVER, what they really receive is applied STEM plus a full employability skill stack (safety, precision, diagnostics, documentation, professionalism) using bicycles as the low-cost, hands-on teaching platform.
A brief overview of some of the skills students learn:
Precision and quality control — Working to measured tolerances (torque specs, alignment, spoke tensioning), inspecting for defects, and confirming work against a documented standard. This maps directly to manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and any QA-driven trade.
Diagnostics and troubleshooting — Identifying root causes across interdependent systems (drivetrain compatibility, brake systems, suspension). This is the same reasoning used in electronics repair, HVAC, IT hardware, and automotive diagnostics.
Safety and compliance — Shop safety, occupational hazard avoidance, proper tool use. Transfers to any hands-on trade with OSHA-relevant environments (construction, manufacturing, healthcare facilities).
Documentation and process discipline — Following checklists, maintaining lab notebooks, documenting builds for supervisor sign-off. Directly applicable to manufacturing traceability, healthcare charting, engineering change logs.
Adaptability to changing technology — Relevant to nearly every technical field as tools and standards evolve.
Interpersonal and professional skills — Communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, customer service, workplace attitude. These are baseline soft skills valued across retail, healthcare, trades, and office environments alike.
Career readiness — Portfolio building, understanding career pathways, interview/employment preparation. A transferable job-search skill set regardless of industry.
